Summer

Image result for schools out
School is almost out! For students at Laguna Middle School school is almost out for summer. School gets out on June 11. The first day of the 2014-2015 school year was August 25. From August 25 to June 11 is 180 school days.

Some teachers have already had students turn in their text book for that particular class. For students that means that the end is near! unfortunately the end being so close that means that the SBAC testing is going to start. SBAC is only for English and Math. Science has the regular STAR test and history doesn't have a Standardized test.

State Cup Soccer

Currently a major soccer tournament is going on. This tournament is known as state cup. This tournament is only for club soccer teams. any team can participate but you have to get invited to play at certain levels. The three levels are Governors Cup, Presidents Cup, and National Cup. The team that I want to talk about her today is the Boys 2000 C. C. Condors. They are a Silver ranked team that has made it all the way to the Elite 8 in Presidents Cup.

The Condors have won 6/6 games. Playing only three games a weekend they have made it to the quarterfinals. The Condors are a team based out of Arroyo Grande. They have 15 kids on their team that are ages 13-15 . 11 people can play on the field at a time. That means that four people must sit out at a time.

Two weekends ago they played in Lancaster CA. Last weekend they played in Apple Valley CA. This weekend they played in San Bernardino CA. In San Bernardino they play Coachella Valley. If they win then they play the winner between RVR Blue and Xplosion SC White. If they win that then they are in the finals.

Tom Brady out passed Russell Wilson completing 37-50 passes, while Wilson completed 12-21 passes. The Patriots running game got shut down only getting 1 rushing first down. Meanwhile the Seahawks got 8 rushing first downs. The Patriots ran 5 more plays than the Sea Hawks. The Patriots ran 72 plays while the Seahawks ran 53. The Seahawks had 7 penalties called for 70 yards while the Patriots had 5 penalties called for 36 yards. The Patriots may have had two turnovers but the one turnover that the Seahawks gave up was a game winning interception at the goal line to win the game. Overall the Patriots had the ball more. they had the ball for 33 minutes and 46 seconds. The Seahawks only had the ball for 26 minutes and 14 seconds, giving the Patriots more time to score.

The Seahawks average player rating is about 3.1.The Patriot’s average player rating is 2.9. The Seahawks may have the better team but the Patriots proved virtuous. The Seahawks have four, 4 star players. Those players are, James Carpenter, Marshawn Lynch, Bruce Irvin, and Byron Maxwell.  The Patriots also have four, 4 star players. Those players are, Rob Gronkowski, LeGarrette Blount, Vince Wilfork, and Dont'a Hightower.

As expected the Superbowl was very close. Tom Brady was ranked the No. 5th quarterback currently in the league. Russell Wilson was ranked the No. 9th quarterback currently in the league. The Seahawks have the best defense in the league. The Patriots have the 6th best defense. These two teams are very even.

Testing being put to the test

Standardized Testing being put to the Test

Most every kids in grades 3-12 do not like taking the Standardized Tests. Recently, a new law has been passed called "No kid left behind." It requires that kids get tested in reading and math. Districts can also add more following the state-mandated test.

Teachers now-a-days are only preparing their students for the test at the end of the year. School year experiences can be destroyed boy this test because it is so big and stressful. The schools are worried about all of those kids are just on the edge of failing.

Everyone, teachers, parents, kids, are saying "this is too much." The real question is what could you do instead of the test?  Sen. Lamar Alexander is proposing a draft bill to eliminate annual testing requirements and really leave it up to the states to have much more flexibility.http://www.npr.org/blogs/ed/2015/01/22/377438689/the-past-present-and-future-of-high-stakes-testing
